THANK YOU

Love it!
But what phrase works best for a solo traveler?
I have no money? Then, run.
Who's buying?
Seriously, I always try to learn the basics to get around. You should be able to order your food, ask for a room and be able to order a good beer.
How about
BATHROOM?
BEER
CAB
and never, ever forget the name and address of your Hotel!
"You are beautiful." ![]()
That phrase could get you into trouble! To whom would you say that?
Haha. I wouldn't dare say it to anyone. Perhaps someone would say it to me in Tagalog! I think it's a nice gesture. ![]()

I would think it depends on the country you are in but universally
" Thank You" must be amongst the top.
That is what I said==I agree wholeheartedly.
I've always thought so too and when planning a trip to China (before the doors opened wide), I even took a class in tourist Mandarin. However, my pronunciation never surfaced correctly and they all laughed/rolled their eyes at me at all my attempts to say "thank you". The intonation is everything in that language and no one would tell me what I really said!! Oh, well... at least they didn't seem offended.
Many years ago there was a notorious British Army Major who always invited new junior officers out to the best local Restaurants for dinner as a sort
of welcome. About as the coffle would be served he would stand up and shout at the new fellow saying:-
" you cad sir I will not eat with you" then storming out leaving the new chap with a big bill. It worked for years until a brighter young chap beat him to it and the old major had no means on him to pay.

Una cerveza más frío por favor.
That is it in my world.
For Americans, I believe Spanish is a language that we should learn.
