Promotions

Hi all.  I have been a Priority Club member since 2008, and have been at the Platinum level since last year.  I have just recently discovered this PC discussion Community / forum for PC members.  I wish I had known about it earlier.  PC does not always make finding things very easy.  ... Hence, my next question ...

Where do you all find out about promotions such as double points, stay 7 get 10K points, etc?   I used to see notifications about promotions in the PC  e-mail newsletter.  I hadn't seen any for this year.   I just found out last night about the current double points from 1-23-12  until  4-30-12 by reading this forum.  Thank you forum members!    Had it not been for this forum, I would still not be signed up for the double points.  (Missed the double points on a few nights already.)    

Why does PC not make it more obvious about the promotions?  And, the next logical question is why do they even require us the "sign up" for them.  Why aren't we just automatically signed up for any promotions just by being PC members?   

It's almost like it's a game of ... "Let's see if the members can find this month's promotion.  Hopefully we don't piss off too many of them when they find out about it when it's half over." 

Why do they do that?   The idea of a promotion is for them to draw in more business.  We might pick IHG hotels over Hilton, etc. If we KNOW that IHG/PC is running a promotion .....  but only if we KNOW about it. 

I also read on the forum that there is a stay 7 get 10K bonus points going on now.  But, I didn't see a link to the sign-up.  Does anyone know how I can sign up for that?   Thanks!

Am I just looking in the wrong places for promotions on the PC website, or is there is some setting I need to make on my account to find more of them?   When I click on the offers, it links me to a bunch of junk like Teleflora, Hertz, Netflix, etc. That offer some points by using their services.  But I don't see anything about bonus promotion offers by staying at IHG hotels.   

Advice is appreciated.

We're happy to have you here! We announce all of the public promotions here within the community like the Double Points/Double Miles promotion. Generally these promotions are announced here a few days ahead of the announcement emails, so you can get a head start on registering for the promotion.

As for promotions like the stay 7 and get 10K, that's a private promotion and as such are not announced here within the community. Members have started conversations regarding these promotions, but as the Community Manager I will not be announcing any of these promo's.

You mentioned that you haven't received any emails regarding promotions, I would encourage you to check your communications preferences in your PCR account to make sure you're receiving promotional emails and notifications.

To address your question regarding "auto-enrolling" members in promotions, legally we are not allowed to do this because we have to have explicit permission for member participation.

Carolyn -   Thanks for the reply.  Much appreciated.   I'm still wondering why some promotions are by private invitation only?  ... And what determines who gets them? 

Why wouldn't IHG want everyone to know about  it?   As I mentioned in the last post, promos are a marketing technique that draw in business ..... but they work better when the customers  know about them  (and in this case, only if we can actually USE them.).     Here's a case where I know about a promotion, but can't even use it  (the stay 7 get 10K points.)    That does not leave a good feeling about  PC. 

It just seems that PC is making this too much of a "game", and is losing the point of it being a marketing promotion tool.

Anyway, now that I've finally found this forum, I won't miss as many promos, (except the private ones I'm not invited to for some reason ??).

Has anyone else struggled to get the Individual Hotel Offers bonus points awarded? I have stayed at numerous hotels where they offer 1K upwards for one or several night stays but have NEVER seen the points appear? I tried to get the PC email and telephone helpline to confirm my 'lost' points but they never responded !!!! They said it was the hotels own promotion - but how can you get the hotel to add the bonus points after you've stayed and left?  Why do IHG offer these promotional points and then never award them? To date i am missing several thousand points which could help towards my status.

I have stayed loyal to IHG above Hilton and Marriott but this small annoyance is a bug-bear of mine!
