Joys of Being a Pet Parent

As we all know, having pets is not always a walk in the park. Sometimes they can act up while other times they are the sweetest, most loving, and behaved pets. In this thread, please share all the positives that come along with the dogs and cats and various critters running around your houses.

What motivates you to handle the hassles and challenges of having a pet?  What makes all the hard work (and expenses) worthwhile?

What provides you with the most pleasure and joy when it comes to being a pet parent/owner?

Re: Joys of Being a Pet Parent

All of the cleaning and money and missing socks are worth it when they snuggle up next to me on the couch and demand to be petted.  Our hound Herschel will use his paws to remind me that he's there when I stop rubbing his head.  Such a needy boy!
