Firstly be points junky then us the points to fly business as we did from London to Nice France. We had the benefits of the new terminal five with the rather grand lounges as well as a quite passable breakfast. The Plane, British Airways, left on time and arrived at the rather efficient airport of Nice allowing a less than twenty five minutes transfer from plane to taxi. The Hotel, our favourite the Carlton InterContinental at Cannes were expecting us and we were greeted by the assistant manager who we have known for some years; He personally showed us to our significantly upgraded room that has a grand view over the bay of Cannes, famous for the film festival; Our room had all the accoutrements that we have come to expect as a Royal Ambassador, such as fresh fruit and ample water; We had another pleasant surprise as we also had an upgrade on the beach to first row beach chairs etc. The mini bar was well stocked with both soft drinks, including water and spirits

We will have stayed 14 nights but only paid for a very modest room for nine as we have used reward nights for the other five. We used our British Airways miles and free companion flight in business for the flight so in all we are well satisfied. It is also wonderful to be recognised by so many of there hotel staffs whom we have got to know offer the lst ten years visiting here.

Particularly nice was the welcome extended by quite junior staff who remembered our names and preferences.

We met a couple from Miami who have returned here for some 40 years. Who says Americans do not travel.

Hi Ronald,

Your story resonates with me and was great to read.  To me, it illustrates that many times we get what we give.   You mentioned that you're familiar with the hotel and staff and that they are familiar with you.  I suspect your good nature invites their generosity and its always good to learn about how customers can be welcomed and treated during any stay - not just the special ones.

Carton Cannes may be my wife's favorite hotel in the world due to it's location (on the Cannes scale and the regional scale).  Would you consider mentioning a few more amenities that we should be on the look-out for during our next visit to Cannes?  Thanks in advance, -Dan.

Back this evening and picked up your kind comments. One of the most pleasing things was a breakfast when one of the waiters saw me at the buffet and came over to express a welcome back but then asked if he could also welcome "madam" and where was she. He went over to our table and ask if she was well etc and her , with out asking a little extra.

I will give some thoughts to your request tomorow.

Variously I have been asked questions regarding Cannes, Amanda asked if I had photos of our Rooms , And I looked back over 10 stays and I did not take one room picture, plenty of the view from different rooms but no room. However using the Hotels Web page  them selecting rooms gives a very good impression of what is available:-

Daniel ask about amenities:-

The Hotel is Quite old  celebrating it centenary in 2012 so some things that you might expect have not been possible. There are plans to use some of the space for a large spa and leisure centre when the economies improve.

Positively the Hotel is Brilliantly located in the middle of the Croisette and about 10 minutes from the rail station that has frequent trains to Nice 30 minute, Monaco (Monte Carlo) 60 minute Menton  about 90 minute and beyond to  Italy.

Being France you would expect a vast selection of Restaurants ranging from the basic fixed price dinner of about 15 euro to many hundreds. The Harbour ( another word we spell differntly) area has a  great selection, we Enjoyed Gaston Gastonette as recommended by Stephan the Head concierge. He will book for you and get you an excellent table.

The Hotel private beach has excellent staff who will arrange your beach chairs, towels drinks and even serve you from the extensive menu. On The beach as well there is a full service restaurant.

There are many shops of the really up market type selling at prices in the many thousands of euros pounds dollars. However by straying of the beaten path similar stocked shops can be found offering more competitively priced items.
