A sad occasion

A few days ago we heard of the deaths of a number of US service men in Texas And we must remember them

Today I just got out of my car when the plane carrying the bodies of the latest six British servicemen to have lost their lives back to UK past over flying low and slow. It was a very somber moment. The plane appeared out of the clouds on a cold and damp British day.

Tomorrow is Armistice day the 11th hour 11th Day 11th month when the guns finally fell silent in he great war that ended in 1918. The second great conflict saw up to 70 million deaths. If ever you visit Moscow there is a wall about 180 yds long and 30 ft or so high in in writing no bigger than this type are the names of the Russians who were known to be lost. Unbelievable.

AS they say " less we forget."

Re: A sad occasion

Ronald,

Thank you for that post.  It truly is a sad day!

The Fort Hood, TX killings are terribly sad, as are all the losses we have experienced in the many wars.

Re: A sad occasion

In the USA, 'Armistice Day' is  known as Veterans Day and is celebrated on November 11th.  It is the day we are supposed  to thank our Veterans for their sacrifices, and remember those who's lives were lost during the wars.

Re: A sad occasion

Ron , thank you for that touching reminder of the holiday,  now called Veteran's Day in the US. Sadly, except for  some parades, it has become another one of those  SALE days for the department stores, trying to clear out the Fall merchandise.

New York has still not come to terms with 9/11 and there are grim reminders all around the city. The World Trade Center site is still a fenced in hole in the ground, but there are workmen and machinery so perhaps something is getting done.
