. I would like a pleasant, unexpected gift.
I joined the frequent guest program of a small boutique chain, and stayed at one of their hotels several years ago.
Recently, I checked into one of their other properties, and as a member of thir guest program, was welcomed with a $10 certificate for the mini-bar. Ok, ten bucks, only buys a couple of candy bars, but it was a nice gesture.
There was also a live plant and a fishbowl with a goldfish. in the room. Very calming, very zen.
What are you getting from other chains that you are NOT getting at IGH hotels? Tell all.
The Bournemouth Marriott does a very tradition afternoon cream tea. Don not know of an HI that offers that.
A Nice Website
complimentary snacks...
some IHG hotel will charge you if you touch the snacks that are in your room.. it's like saying "for your eyes only"
Dear Contessa,
Dare ye tell us in which botique chain you stayed?
Rick'sfamily,
Hi Rick, the boutique hotwl chain is Kimpton.
I like the hotel websites that let me enter all kinds of info about my preferences to my profile. Some options other hotel sites offer: floor preference, near or away from elevator, fridge request for room, extra pillows. I have checked into hotels when I have these extras on my profile, and the items are either already in my room when I arrive, or the front desk clerk informs me it will be delivered shortly. I also like strong rich coffee and prefer liquid creamer to the awful powder packs, so I love hotels that have superior coffee set ups. Not very many IHG properties have what I would consider excellent coffee, although there are a few.
Great ideas! Hope IHG is listening..
If you belong to a Marriott leisure club in the UK you membership card allows you 20% discount on most food and beverages at your base hotel. This is often extended to other Marriott's in the UK a very worthwhile benefit.
Marriott hotels do have decent restaurants, while some of the IHG hotels should better close them. It would be great if IHG could convince their franchises to hire chefs that can cook and revamp their restaurants to make them more appealing to us guests
I can't say I have struck a restaurant that served bad food at an ICH hotel (have struck poor service at the restaurant at one HI to the extent that I avoid the particular hotel)
It is a shame that the restaurants in the IHG chains do not have great places to eat. IF they could get good chefs, fresh food, and innovative menus, they might be able to attract local patrons.
The hotel restaurants do not publish/advertise enough to keep the business at a productive level!
We had dinner at the new Rocky Mount, HI and it was excellent. The problem I saw was the place was empty! We were the only guests dining in.
Agreed! Many of the restaurants at the hotels in any of the chains are awful. And when Marriott gives 20%
off to its frequent guest members, the food is still awful
Exceptions
the IC in Chicago on the miracle Mile now has a wonderful restaurant on the second floor. Their former restaruant at street level was terrible , but is now a Starbucks.
The IC Amstel has a 2 star Michelin restaurant, and I think deserves a three. It was that good.
One of the hotel loyalty schemes I belong to (and it is a smaller chain) offer 20% of food and beverage (excl breakfast), 50% off wired internet and a welcome back beverage. These are all welcome benefits. At one of the hotels my membership card was coded to become my room key. Saved carrying a second card!
At another, my status level gets free internet, while another free breakfast is in.
Wouldn't expect all these benefits, but perhaps a way of choosing a benefit would be welcome
i like the breakfast to go bags that Hamptons give. I don't always have time to sit and eat. Bottle of water, fruit and a breakfast bar comes in handy to snack on during the day.
What a good idea to have those breakfast take-away bags. I like that a lot. Thanks for sharing
I've seen a few hotels around with things like 'express breakfast', 'breakfast in a box', which sound the same thing. Maybe I should try one sometime!
Sounds awful, I would have indigestion all day if I had an express breakfast. I prefer it to be leisurely. but I forget I am retired and time does not press.
In San Antonio after eating a Texas Style BQ place on the River Walk I presented my HHonors Amex card a and what was my status.nd the waiter asked me if I was a Hilton Honors member and what was my status? I told him Gold and told me he could take 25% of my bill because it was a Hilton run establishment. He asked to see my member card that I did not have. In a flash he called his manager and the bill was dropped $22.00. I gave him a good tip and he reminded me that is a perk Hilton offered it loyal customers. Plus it was on the Dining List so I received points from them
Alazzo1,
I'm a huge fan of BBQ. Are you? If you have any recommendations, please share them with us in the Best Eats thread! Feel free to share you favorite New York eateries too! : )
Thanks,
So it now looks like all the other major chains (Starwood, Marriott, and Hyatt) are now offering free internet for their elites -- at least the top tier (admittedly -- Marriott is only offering it at US & Canadian properties).
Might it be time for Priority Club/InterContinental to offer the same for their top tier elites at ALL of their hotels as well?
For me, personally, most of my stays are at InterContinental properties -- and internet is sometimes offered for free to Ambassadors/Royal Ambassadors, but not across the board.
I realize this is incremental revenue for the individual hotels, and usually free access can be had in the club lounge, etc. But I'd rather be able to have it all the time, in my room!
I agree that Internet service should be an included expense for loyal members. And, fitting with this topic title--If other chains are offering free Internet service, I wish IHG would too.
I am a Platinum member without Ambassador membership. I have only had to pay for Internet service at IC, and since I do not stay at IC very often, this doesn't usually affect me at IHG properties. If I paid $150 for Ambassador membership, I would expect Internet service to be included. I am surprised that it's not.
I recently received an email from Marriott saying that there will no longer be a charge for Internet service for Gold and Platinum members. I'm surprised I received the email since I only have Silver Marriott status. I am also a member of Starwood and Hyatt (Gold), and have not received an email from them telling me this has changed. Although, I don't think I've ever paid for Internet service at either of those chains in the past.
Elizabeth,
Thank you for the update regarding internet service and the competitors. You make a good point!
Thanks,
Amanda Kehoe
