With so much travel information being produced everyday and an endless number of resources producing that information; it can be hard to decipher which sources are trustworthy. For me, I tend to visit travel Web sites such as TripAdvisor.com for all my travel questions! What about you?
What online resources do you trust the most for travel (or specifically hotel) information?
How often to visit these online resources?
Trip advisor,
Fodor's newsletter is often interesting for information.
Tourist website ofr the country or city I am visiting, often helpful, non- profit, current info of special events. Most sites have an email help line. I usually ask how do I get to the hotel form the airport and I aske what are the options and the cost.
I generally visit something on line when planning a trip.
Usually use tripadvisor but lately there seem to be a lot of moaning minies around on it. Also use The BBC (British Broadcasting Corporations) weather forecasts and general climate conditions. The foreign office advice sheets for a new country. British Airways also offers a destination guide. The IHG hotel web pages when used in depth can provide a good deal of information, although as mentioned on other pages the hotel photo albums could be better.
Trip Advisor, however, Ronald makes an excellent observation! There are 'complaints' posted that seem unwarranted, or exagerated.
Fodors is a good source and I check Zagat .
Always have the best experience witht he hotel concierge. Just finished my reservation with the IC Frankfurt and the concierge already has taken care of several things for me.
I tend to turn to TripAdvisor a lot. The trick is to read many reviews to get a sense for the good, the bad, and the ugly. Some of the whiners complain about things that seem pretty trivial to me. I especially enjoy the traveler's photos, as they give a more realistic picture of what a hotel actually looks like than the hotel's own website does. Another site for US hotel reviews is Raveable.com, which pulls from TripAdvisor as well as other sites online. I just learned of this site in the past month or so and have started contributing my own reviews to the site to help build content there.
I like the Raveable site. Thanks for posting that information.
You mentioned that you contribute reviews. How does one do that? Should I e-mail them or were you selected to do so?
I did not see any sign up or registration for the site.
Hi, Rick,
I was invited to contribute reviews to Raveable, because I do a lot of that on my travel blog. I believe you need to be a travel blogger. If you are, you can grab some code at their website to insert in your blog posts that will create a "Featured Blog on Raveable" badge, which their search engines will pick up and they will pull your content into their site. Make sense? Here's an example from the Las Vegas section:
http://www.raveable.com/nv/las-vegas/blog-badges/l4839
It's destination-specific, so you'll want to grab the badge code for whatever area you're writing about (again, US only).
I hope that helps!
Gray
Thank you for that info.. I do not blog but I enjoy reading the blogs about travel
.
Although the GuestBook entry information on this site is new and doesn't have many entries yet, I love it! When I am looking for a specific IHG review, I check that first. Other sites I use in addition to TripAdvisor are flyertalk and oyster reviews. Another trick is Google maps. Just enter the location of where you will be visiting on Google maps, then enter what you are researching, such as "hotels" or "restaurants." When the site returns all the locations, it also includes reviews from many different sources.
Good sources, iristina! For some reason, I always forget to check flyertalk, even though I've always found it useful whenever I do. Must burn
that one into my brain....
Probably because flytalk is not as user friendly as some of the others... I've added Raveable to my bookmarks ~ thanks for that site, which I did not have!
