How to file a complaint as an employee?

I recently had a horrible experience attempting to make a reservation with the Holiday Inn of Lima, Ohio.  I thought I could report the matter to Priority Club since I am a member, but was redirected to the Employee resolution line since I work for the Holiday Inn Express of Tiffin, Ohio.  After almost two weeks, I finally recieved a response from the Employee resolution line saying they could do nothing because I work for a franchise (which I thought all Holiday Inn Expresses were anyway.)  I was able to get the name of the managment group of the Holiday Inn, but without contact information I am stuck.  Does anyone have advice on what more I can do to have my complaint heard so this hotel does not just get away with treating people like animals?

Re: How to file a complaint as an employee?

Hey,

I was thinking that since you are an employee, you could talk to the DOS or General Manager of the Ohio Holiday Inn. I'm not sure if you were making the reservation over the phone, directly through the hotel, or on-line. Were you having trouble with the Ohio property giving you the employee rate? How many properties does the franchise company own?

Thanks,

Amanda Kehoe

Re: How to file a complaint as an employee?

I travel a lot myself under the employee discount card, and I have found that occassionally, I run into issues with the hotel I'm giong to not wanting to honor the discount.  I just make a note of it, and call the GM when I get back to the office.  I sure enjoy the discount program, although, I understand that it will **** ADR for the night.   I try to spread my stays around, so that I am not staying at just one property, although there are a couple in the Houston area I would stay at every week if I could.  Haven't been able to get into the Intercon on the employee discount yet.  Always a date conflict. I'm actually on my way to the Hotel Indigo at the Galleria there tonight though.  It will be my first Indigo stay.  I'm kind of excited.

Sorry to get a little off topic, I don't understand why Guest Relations wouldn't help you if you wanted to call them.  You are technically a guest, just staying at a discounted rate.

Re: How to file a complaint as an employee?

It was great.  I really like this brand.  I usually stay in an HIX due to my working for HIX, so that I can compare properties, but now, I will stay in Hotel Indigo every chance I get now.  Plus it earned me points with the wifey.  She LOVED the Indigo.  I will highly recommend it to everyone now.  The colors are great, and the bed was amazing.  It was so much fun.  I'm not sure if you've been to this part of Houston, I notice seems like you've been everywhere. ) but it is right behind the Galleria mall, which again earned points with the wifey while costing me some money.  Lots of restaurants around it.  I had the best Greek food I've had from across the street.  If you're in Houston, stay here.  I'm going to try to stay at the Intercontinental, which is only three blocks away, here soon.

Thanks for checking up on me.

Jon,

I'm glad you were pleased. I have to agree on the colors and the bed that your wife loved so much. I'm sure Contessa Vanessa (Marlene) would love to hear about your stay in her thread, Indigo Hotels-Have you been?  Did you see any pets wondering around? lol

Thanks,

I am attempting to find out by devious routes for you. It is intolerable that the GM does not have the confidence in his actions to not feel able to defend himself with his bosses. If all else fails you could contact IHG HQ in UK and ask for the information.

Surely in your contract or terms of employment there should be a grievance procedure.

Re: How to file a complaint as an employee?

Have you contacted the GM?

IF you are able to contact the local Better Business Bureau you may be able to obtain the OWNERSHIP name and address.

Recently I had an issue with the GM at a IHG and the only way  I was able to get resolution was by contacting the owners.

Keep us posted!

Just a thought , in the UK there is a notice behind reception stating the ownership

Yes, that is correct!  I was thinking she lived a distance from the hotel and it

might be inconvenient for her to go back to check it out.

Your comment should serve as a reminder for guests who encounter problems in the future.  Before you leave, check out the ownership, jot down the information you may need to make contact with a higher level for resolution of any issues.

Take a look at this information, it is interesting!  Ownership has changed on some of the hotels in Lima, OH..

And there are clues to ownership...

Re: How to file a complaint as an employee?

LIMA — The motel lineup on Lima’s east end shuffled Thursday as a new facility opened and another changed its name.

The new Holiday Inn and Suites opened its doors on South Leonard Avenue on Thursday. Guests began checking in to the $7.5 million facility by mid-afternoon, launching a new era for the franchise in Lima. At the same time, the chain’s former Lima motel, the Holidome, just across Interstate-75 on Roschman Avenue, became a Howard Johnson motel.

Ray Schulte, spokesman for the new motel’s management company, said the change represents a new concept for the 56-year-old chain.

“This is a brand new prototype. My expression is, ‘This is not your dad’s Holiday Inn,’” Schulte said.

The motel houses 116 rooms total, 21 of which are one-bedroom suites. A lobby with high ceilings flows into a 60-seat restaurant and lounge serving a range of casual American cuisine including steaks, seafood and sandwiches along with breakfast. Like most contemporary motels, it includes a pool and exercise facility as well as a business center and meeting room capable of housing 150 people or being divided into three separate rooms.

But Manager David Waymire said the change for Holiday Inn goes beyond design. The chain has instituted a new training program that emphasizes customer service above all else.

“Service is the No. 1 key. We emphasize real people taking care of real people,” Waymire said.

The motel already has a history of sorts. Bobby Das, who owns the business with two Cincinnati investors, began construction 16 months ago, shortly after his Travelodge motel was damaged in a wind storm. He eventually demolished the front of the business to make room for the Holiday Inn. In 2007, Das was granted a 15-year 50 percent real estate tax abatement by the city of Lima for the project. He continues to run the Travelodge.

This marks the third hotel to open in the neighborhood in the past two years. In 2007, Country Inns & Suites opened across from the new Holiday Inn. And in 2008, a four-story, 100-room Courtyard by Marriott opened on the former site of Ryan’s Steakhouse on Greeley Chapel Road

Re: How to file a complaint as an employee?

i'm sorry that you had a bad experience with the hotel while trying to make a reservation for yourself.. if you are trying to make a reservation using the employee rate.. i suggest that you do it online since you will get the same rate for the hotel without talking to any of the hotel personnel.. and once you have your reservation just present the proper documents and ID when you arrive at the hotel.. just to let you know, according to my friends, "Once an employee receives a confirmation number for a reservation at the Employee Room Benefit Programme rate, the hotel may not rescind that rate." you can check more of this at the employee website.. so whether the hotel is owned or a franchised one, they cannot decline your reservation..

Re: How to file a complaint as an employee?

Maybe you could call the Employee Resolution Line again and ask for guidance. Also, your post indicates you called Priority Club, but did you speak to Guest Relations? It is Guest Relations (in Salt Lake City) that usually addresses hotel quality/service issues, not Priority Club. Perhaps your GM could help out by contacting the franchise contacts at IHG.

Re: How to file a complaint as an employee?

I still don't know what the facts are except that it was with a General Manager at a franchised hotel not managed/owned or operated by IHG. However, the General Manager reserves the right to honor or not honor employee room benefit rates, in certain circumstances. Your hotel manager can assist you with the matter. In my opinion, that may be your best bet rather then discussing it further on the board since it is a personal matter. Just for future reference, the discounted employee rate is not always offered to hotels within 50 or so miles of each other.

Respectfully,

Amanda Kehoe

Re: How to file a complaint as an employee?

This is not correct.  The employee rate can't be booked more then 90 days out and must be booked online or through 1800 Holiday.  Properties may adjust their inventory to close out an employee rate if the property is going to have a night that looks like they will be full, with a few exceptions.  However, the rate must be honored if the hotel is more than 30 miles from the hotel you are employed at, as long as the above criteria are met.

Check out this link http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/employees.  I use the employee rate ALL of the time.  I just returned this morning from the Hotel Indigo in Houston, and it was an amazing property.  I recommend it to anyone traveling to Houston.

This doesn't excuse their being rude to you, however, it may be one of the reasons that you weren't given a reservation at the hotel directly.  The hotel only has to offer 3 rooms as well, and like I said may be adjusted for the day, if the availability is low.  Example, 11-8-09 may be adjusted 11-8-09, if our occupancy is above x amount of rooms.

Hope this helps.  I have A LOT of experience both using the employee rate, and accepting the employee rate at our hotel as well.  If you have any questions, let me know.

WOW, great rates for employees!  If I were retired and wanted to travel alot, I'd consider going back to work for IHG just for the benefits..

Re: How to file a complaint as an employee?

It is well worth it.  I have saved THOUSANDS of dollars.  If I have a day off, (many times I won't for a couple of weeks) I pick a hotel somewhere within driving distance and I head out.  It's a lot easier to travel with the hotel only costing 29-59.00.  Even Intercontinental.   59.00.  No points though, which I'm fine with.  I'll take the discount.

I have stayed at most IHG properties in Houston with this discount.  Like I said in an earlier post, employees are welcomed most places, but I have encountered a few that I could definitely tell they didn't want my discount in there.

Spidergirl,

I agree that it definitely could have been handled better from his/her end. I'm glad the members provided some great ideas to help you resolve the issue. I know you work for Proctor & Gamble now per your profile. Do you still work part-time at the hotel? If so, what is your position?

Re: How to file a complaint as an employee?

Amanda,

You bring a question to mind.. how many hours does one have to work for IHG to be able to use the employee rate?

Are others/affiliates allowed to use this rate?
