I am a "guest" at a new HIX in Paris, TX.
Today is the official Grand Opening Celebration!
Very nice with free food, music, a HI Race Car out front and HIX home office employees to show visitors the different "display rooms".
My room is located next to a "display room".
I work in my room from 4:00 p.m. until I am done. The door to the "display room" has slammed about once every five minutes for the last four hours! Maddening!!!
I ask the HIX employee to please prop open the door so it would not slam. He refused.
Had I known this would be the case I would be at the La Quinta I&S just across the way.
Sounds miserable! Hope you contacted the manager!
I feel that they are unable to prop the door open because the local fire regulations don't permit it.
Here in the UK all doors to all rooms must be able to close themselves tight shut once opened and no further force is keeping it open. If a fire took hold in that room it would quickly spread to the corridor making your evacuation difficult if not impossible. Maybe they could relocate you to an area that wasn't being used as a display room?
The security "loop latch" was pushed forward so that the door did not latch and could be opened from the hall without a key.
So much for the fire code.
Did you asked to be moved to a quieter room or some form of compensation. I believe you should have been advised of the event so you could have made a choice. Not only would you have been not troubled but your perception of that hotel would have been higher.
After "nesting in" for two days I did not want to pack up and move to another room for one remaining night.
I did express my concerns to the desk clerk as I left. The only reply I recieved was a promise that they would not have another Grand Opening.
Tom,
I would have asked them to use a door stopper. Every hotel has them for Maintenance and Housekeeping. And if they would have said no, use the news paper and make a stopper out of it.
It's pretty sad that the hotel didn't respond to your request.
