What is the most IHG have charged you for Internet access

How much has an IHG hotel charged you for Internet access for access during a one night stay.

Last night I was charged £15 for 24 hours access at HI Bristol Filton.

Can anyone beat that?

The only hotel in the US that has ever charged me for this was an IC, which was $9.95 a night. They also offered a 3-day package; however, I do not recall the price for that.

In the US the standard is around $10.- while in Europe I paid up to EUR 19.- Nobody pushes one to use the hotel Internet and most times you have free access the lobby or in other public areas. It was just more convenient to use it in the room but you pay for it.  I remember the old days where your only option was an analog line and I paid more to the phone companies to have Internet.  Yes I would like to have Internet access for free but when this is not available I am also willing to pay for.   JBa

Re: What is the most IHG have charged you for Internet access

Most of my stays with IHG are in the southern U.S. at the HIX chain. Internet access is free.

Most properties have a choice of wireless or wired access. The quality depends on how many other guest are using it at the same time.

This week download speeds varied between 55 mbs and 5 mbs. When it slows down I use my Verizon card.

Free access is fine but when it slows to a crawl using business app's can be impossible.

My Verizon card cost $70 a month so $10 a night for paid hotel access seems a bit high.

Re: What is the most IHG have charged you for Internet access

I have never paid for internet access at any Holiday Inn property.  However, I have paid from $9.95 and up at Hilton, Hyatt, and other properties.  I don't know why it is, but it seems that the more a hotel charges for a room the more likely they are to charge for internet access.  In most cases I just use an air card and don't opt for the "paid" service.  Just one more reason why IHG is my favorite.

I hope you don't misuse the concierge.

Now why would you think I may?

Do you not ask for your plane seats to be confirmed , and are then delighted when they print your boarding passes for you. I think it is called service.

Nothing wrong with using the concierge services. I also use the help of the concierge for car hires, restaurant bookings etc.

Re: What is the most IHG have charged you for Internet access

Because of my Platinum status I have never been charged at IHG.  Of the IHG hotels at Holiday Inn Express and most Holiday Inns it is alway free but at Crowne and Initercontinental there are charges fo non Platinum guests.....go figure.

However at Hilton and Starwood I have ben charged as much as $24 a day, but not Hampton Inns (free).

I agree this is obscene considering at Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express and Hampton Inns all guests get free internet.

Re: What is the most IHG have charged you for Internet access

In my home town the city council is promising city wide free WI FI. I would suggest then that if a city can do it for free why not other institutions? Am I missing something?

Absolutely you are.

Who pays for the FREE WI FI in your city?

Nothing is FREE!

Do you have a choice to pay for the FREE  WiFi or not?

What if you do not have a computer?

If not do you still pay?

Re: What is the most IHG have charged you for Internet access

The city of Swindon will be offering basic, get you on free Wifi.

No particular speeds for access have been given nor how much you can up and download yet, but I imagine they won't be must faster than double dial up speeds and downlaods will be limited to 2 Gigabytes. What they are hoping for is that people will sign up for faster access and more download capacity, thus making the service pay for itself.

We shall see in the coming months what will happen.
