I find it interesting that you equate the stay as a monetary transaction where as I regard it as a social and leisure activity meeting and relating to people and staff. Yes in the end I will need to produce the plastic and get a reward of point ( on both the CC and PC) but that is a very small fraction of the total experience. I find, also, that regarding myself as a guest is a more relaxing and rewarding experience and the empathy in this case is reflected by the staff.
