recently on another IHG forum we had a member who was RA in IHG's Loyalty scheme but also at the same equivalent level in at least two other chains, That suggested the person stayed at least 180 nights per year in hotels. Do you do the same or more. I only manage 55/60 to hopefully maintain RA status.
I am a leisure traveler, only maintain status in one chain, like you. So far this year I'm at 40 nights in ICHG properties. There were a few additional nights spent at non-ICHG properties...so maybe I've done 50 nights in hotels so far this year. I will say, I've probably been doing more "weekender" type trips than usual this year -- because the deals have been so good.
I average about 100-120 nights per yr in hotels on business. Usually 3/4 of those in ICHG properties, the rest in Marriot properties.
This year I'm looking at about 100 and up, but next year should be at about the 150+ .
12-5-09 Well I thought I was only going to be at about 100 nights this year, but I'm at over 150 qualifying nights so far and over 200 total nights for the year. ( and for the record they are all at IHG properties )
Good question, Ron,
I'm retired and stay in hotels about 50 nights annually.. My first choices are the Intercontinental, Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn, but don't always stay in them.
Sometimes hotels in other chains have a better location or better rate. I have frequent guest accounts with Hilton, Marriott and Starwood and use these as a second choice and since I don't use thee hotell often, I don't get perks, just points.
Not as many this year so far as last year. About 50 so far for the year, but that will go through the roof this summer as I do most of my business travel during this time. I prefer IHG, but also stay at Hilton and Marriott. (Their point redemption is not as good though)
Just checked my expense reports for last year. Total 108 nights for business, another 18 for pleasure. Already have about 60 business this year, will probably do another 60 or more before the end ofthe year.
Roughly around 40 for buisness and about 10 for leisure.
Last year was crazy 134 nights, mainly HIX, Best Western, Choice Hotels (Comfort Inn) and Marriott. I got bored at the end and stayed at a few B&B's and a some ma & pa places that were total dives. Good times.
So far this year only 36 nights. But I have spent as much as 300 in a year.
James, I should have noted that answered earlier, 300 night? how did you cope?
When possible I try to stay in extended stay hotels. StayBridge, Residence Inn, Homewood ect. That way it is more like an apartment. The one good thing is I am usually in one area for a few months at a time so I do settle in.
I usually stay well over 100 nights per year--mostly business, some personal. I mostly stay at IHG properties because I have Platinum status and have the best experiences with upgrades and perks from them. I have Gold and Silver status with Hilton and Marriott as well.
I already have 100 nights at HI this year so far and have another 4 months to go, so I'll most likely have around 140 or so nights total this year. 99% of those this year will be with HI.
How many nights per year do I stay in Hotels?
That's easy - too many ![]()
Lost count this year. Maybe 50, maybe 75, I will tote it up if I don't get my elite status renewed, I guess. Otherwise the nights are better just forgotten, and put down to 'experience.' ![]()
If you are signed in to the loyalty clubs a redeeming factor is, like me, enjoying in retirement spending all the points in places I choose to go.
I stay about 100 nights per year... Way too much!
I would guess 85% of my stays are at the Crowne Plaza in Lake Oswego, Oregon. I live in a small town on the Southern Oregon coast, but I'm VP of a small firm (50 employee's) and oversee our Oregon operations from Portland. Living 255 miles from my office can create a lot of travel!
I have just seen a post by a person who stays away 50 weeks a year. I could not contemplate that in a modern society unless it is through choice.
50 weeks a year is just insane. A company should never expect that. I stay 50 or so night for bussiness. 15 or so for fun. thats enough for me.
Ronald, I used to travel every week.. 4 nights a week on average... Thank goodness I am no longer doing that!
It was hectic and I missed a lot of family time. My wife is a strong woman, and she held everything and everyone together for 5 years!
Glad it is over, don't miss the travel for work but still enjoy vacation time!
This year its approx 50 on pleasure. Been to most parts of the world this year.
Great being on a friends travel consessions working for an airline .Heavily discounted rates in the Hotels as well. But still get all the perks ie upgrades
that a Platinum Ambassador would normally receive. All this on top of premium travel.
So would you be our most well traveled contributor?
I go petty much were ever I'm sent. What ever the conference hotel is that's were I stay.I've spent over 22 nights so far, with another trip coming up in Oct. but only 3 nights in a Crowe Plaza. I love the Holiday Inn Resorts. Those market and sells managers need to get busy.
Well I just started my travel on a new project, it's scheduled out that each of my trips are 2 weeks apiece then I get to come home for a week. The project is scheduled for completion in July of next year so I am guessing I will have somewhere around 180 to 200 nights.
You may like to look at Ambassador membership,if your stays are mainly IHG
Let's put it this way.
I've had platinum status with HI for the last 10 years (no, I'm not hoarding points), gold with Hilton Honors for the last 5 years (likewise not hoarding), and at least second tier with several others.
I travel so much that even my dog sometimes forgets who I am.
'Nuff said.
I have a guy that has been in one of our suites since Aug. 2008. He just extended until May 2010. He is building a powerplant here. I'm really gonna hate to see him leave when his project is done. ![]()
I do hope you have him signed in to Priority Club.
Down this year approx 150 so far 118 at HI's
I don't think many people will be realistically able (or if they are honest probably want to if they are away from their family) make 300!!
I should do just under 150 this year (mostly HI's) which is up from a bit over a hundred last year. That's almost all business related - probably another dozen or so on top of that for 'fun'. Hopeful for RA status one day as like you Ronald I like to stay at Intercontinentals for pleasure and it does make a difference. Maybe IHG could have a word with Santa for me? ![]()
Cheers, David
I calculate 135 nights by the end of this year (most on business). However, two years ago I was away from home so much that it would have been cheaper for me to live in hotels all year and not have to pay the mortgage. I do like getting home occassionally.......
This year 102 and out.
now in the mid 50's and all leisure
This year will only be about 70 nights out for me. Usually book ICH chains, Hilton chains, sometimes IPrefer historical hotels when possible and of course, Mandarin Oriental for luxury.
I pick lots of different places when travelling to Vegas.
Have you ever been to the Mandarin in Hong Kong. I did for dinner some 20 years ago in the grill room. The best service that I can recall ever experiencing.
this year only about 75, next year about 100. My goal is to reduce those nights as much as possible, but right now, that is where I am at. Ronald, I like the idea of saving up for retirement. After my two week trip to Europe, I will probably end up saving, and hopefully have several million points by retirement ( or not, if I stop travelling, depending on how you look at it).
Some of us in the UK may remember Fawlty Towers where there where, such as the Major, full time guests. I wonder if any one knows wether there are hotels that have full time residents?
Yes, I know a couple who permanently live in in a one bedroom suite (living room , bedroom, small kitchen) in a
hotel in SanDiego. They moved in temporarily, as they were. going to build a TajMahal for themselves, but got so comfortable that it is two years and still going that hotel living is working for them
Many hotels in NY have always had permanent guests. The Chelsea until recently was one, but I think it is going condo or something and remters could no longer live there. . The Pierre and the Carlisle have had permanent guests. for years. now, some of the space is now condoed. There is a limit in hotel bylaws as to how much space can be allotted to transients and how much to owners
It is now a trend in upscale hotels to combine transient hotel rooms, with condoed apartments. The Plaza Hotel just did that, combining retail space, hotel space and condo apts ( apts are still available, for about 12 milliion dollars). So did the Ritz Carleton downtown near ground zero and there are others.
I don't know if this happens in other places; but this is what is going on in NY. If I could afford it, I would consider living in a hotel
I remembered a story from a couple of years ago that told of a couple who had lived in a Travelodge's for over 22 years. They now have their room named after them.

I remember Fawlty Towers also. We get a lot of good stuff from across the pond: Are your Being Served, As Times Goes By, alot of the BBC mysteries, and more. My fave? It was years ago, but I think I watched every episode of Upstairs Downstairs,
Did you know there are only 12 episodes of Fawlty Towers and there was a 4 year gap between season 1 (1975) and 2 (1979)?
For more about Fawlty Towers visit:
I didn't know that about Fawtly Towers. It's hard to tell how many episodes there were, as many of these shows re-run forever.
Keeping up Appearances, Are You Being served and As Times Goes By go on and on and on and are still being shown weekly . on out local PBS channel ( public broadcasting system) .
I highly recommend the DVD if you can still find it.
