When I travel I always take my digital camera. Before we go, I like to dump all the stored photos to my computer and purge the contents so I start out with maximum space. Before we check any bags at the airport I take individual photos of each piece of luggage.
A few years ago the airline couldn't find our bags upon arrival in Shannon, Ireland. When they asked us to describe the bags I was able to show them the photos. It sure helped us remember whether we checked the blue suitcase or the orange one and it clearly showed the yellow ribbons we had tied to the handles!
It looks kind of strange when you show the pictures to friends and family later, but every one of our trips starts with nice pictures of our luggage!
MahoneM,
That is the BEST travel-related tip I have heard in a long time. I, too, have arrived to my destination only to find that my bags didn't arrive with me. ![]()
I almost always have my camera with me, so it seems like a pretty easy thing to do to snap a few photos before checking bags.
Thanks for the tip! ![]()

Thanks - that is a great tip.
I remember a good friend of mine always took a photo of the airport name on arrival that way she knew that those photos related to that location and could also easily look back to see all the places she had visited.
Have fun travelling, I'm just off to Euro Disney with my little nieces on Sunday, we have 4 days of seeing Mickey Mouse and his pals!!

Great idea to take a picture of the luggage you're checking.
I also try to take pictures of signposts of places I'm visiting. For example, if I'm at a stately home, I take a picture of the sign that has the place name, admission times, etc. so I know that the subsequent pictures are of that stately home. Unless I'm downloading pictures every night and labelling them, it's sometimes hard to remember when I get home which castle, garden, ruin, etc. is which.
Good idea!
I have photographed, most of my clothes that will go into the suitcase as well. Thius, if the bag never shows up, I can validate to the insurance company or airline what was in there and can justify the cost of the contents in the bag.
That's a tip I'm going to put into use!
What an excellent suggestion!
Wow...it seems so obvious, but I hadn't ever thought of doing that. Very nice tip! Thanks.
